Descendants of slave traders will holistically perform an atonement ceremony on behalf of their ancestors for their corrective involvement in the inhumane slave trade from descendants of the enslaved Africans captured and sold into slavery. Upon embarking on this mission participants will undertake a DNA testing exercise with reputable laboratories with offices in the USA and Ghana to trace their roots and reveal their ancestral ethnic group. The pilgrimage expedition starts with arrival to their ancestral homeland where participants will be met and ushered into the community and will be taught some of the cultural elements of the community. The teachings will include greetings, dancing, dressing and cooking. Participants will meet some prominent members of the community, like chiefs and elders and learn about family trees and the history of their ancestors. We will journey our way to Salaga, a major slave market where enslaved Africans were sold around the 18th century and descendants of slave traders will hold a ceremony in the participants’ honor to request forgiveness for their role in the shameful act of selling slaves. The event will climax with a foot washing ceremony held by the local community as a sign of apology to the descendants of enslaved Africans. This tour package is designed for African Americans and descendants of enslaved Africans around the diaspora who were affected by the infamous slave trade which lasted for over 400 years.

Akwaaba (welcome) to Ghana, the group will be welcomed at the airport by our cultural certified guide and team for meet and greet. The group will be transferred to their reserved accommodation upon arrival in an air-conditioned vehicle and will be assisted for check-in. *Note that early check-in will be facilitated by the host should the group arrive early before check-in time. We will heed to the calls of Mother Africa and start our journey of redemption on this day, and our first stop is** W.E.B Du Bois center**, the former home of one of the pioneers of black liberation, W.E.B. Du Bois. DuBois moved to Ghana in the 1960’s to help his friend Kwame Nkrumah educate Ghanaians about the struggle and triumph of formerly enslaved Africans in America. Unfortunately, DuBois died after only a few years in Ghana. The home has since been transformed into a museum and is a final resting place of the giant Pan Africanist.
We will continue to the Independence Square a symbolic site commissioned in 1960 by Queen Elizabeth of England which signifies the liberation of Ghanaians from colonial rule. Our journey of Accra will proceed to Kwame Nkrumah Museum and Memorial Park which is the final resting place of one of Africa’s greatest sons, Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of Ghana. The museum housed his personal belongings, and the park has a green vegetation of trees planted by dignitaries who has visited the park. We will drive through the colonial city of Jamestown and take pictures of the oldest lighthouse, Ussher fort, Jamestown prison and the Afro-Brazilian house in the oldest suburb in Accra. National Museum of Ghana, which stands as a treasure trove of the nation's history and culture. Upon arriving at the museum, we will be taken through the facility, encountering exhibitions that showcase the nation's rich cultural heritage, from its pre-colonial origins to its resilience to imperialism and colonial rule, and beyond. The facility houses a majestic collection of artifacts, sculptures, textiles, and archaeological finds that give a captivating glimpse into Ghana's history. Drumming Lesson The group will participate in a traditional drumming and dancing lesson by expert cultural drummers. The group will be guide by playing giant African drums and learn some Ghanaian dance move. Visit the Art Center Cultural Market Walk through the vibrant cultural market with authentic Ghanaian handy craft, art works and souvenirs on display. We will take an early scheduled flight (1hr) to Tamale after breakfast, upon arriving in Tamale will be picked up by our team and continue to Mole National Park for a wildlife expedition where giant elephants will be at glance. We will return to our hotel and have dinner, drumming and dancing. Overnight in Tamale Meals included: Breakfast
We embark on our journey of atonement after breakfast to Salaga a town 1 hour and a half away from our hotel and we will have a scenic drive to our destination. We will meet the traditional leaders in Salaga, one of the major trading locations of the slave trade and we will tour around the former slave trading site where slave trading started in the then Gold Coast. We will visit families who ancestors were slave raiders and are still in possession of slave shackles and chains in their families’ home. The ceremony will be sealed with descendants of slave traders performing a foot washing ceremony as a show of humility and plea for forgiveness. This ceremony is designed by the community as a symbolic apology for their ancestors’ role in the inhumane act of slave trading. We will proceed to the slave market site where captured African men and women were sold in an open market. Lay a wreath at the grave site remembering those who did not survive the slave trade.
We will participate in naming ceremony event where we will be treated to drumming and dancing whilst obtaining our lost African identity by the local community. After the ceremony we will drive back to our hotel in Tamale. _Overnight in Tamale_ Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner
We will drive to Kumasi after breakfast and make a stop at Kintampo Waterfalls and entreat ourselves to impeccable nature. Our second stop will be Assin Bono Slave Market where captured men and women were sold in open market. We will continue to Kumasi and settle into our hotel. Today we will explore the Ashanti Kingdom and its prowess of ancient craftsmanship and resistance to colonial rule. Our first stop will be Manhyia Palace Museum to learn about the century’s old kingdom of the Asante people. The museum houses antiquity and literature of the powerful Asante people. We will continue to the Komfo Anokye Sword Site which has a symbolic significance to the formation and unity of the Ashanti kingdom. It will intrigue you to know that the sword has never been removed after the effort to take it out with heavy machines. The great boxer Muhammad Ali couldn’t remove it when he visited Ghana.
We will continue to explore the former British colony and visit the Kumasi Cultural Center and King Prempeh Museum and learn about rich culture of Ashanti and one of the great rulers of the kingdom. We will journey our way to the Kumasi Central Market and witness how people barter their trade. We will spend the rest of the day at Kumasi City Mall.

After breakfast we will take on a village tour and traverse the craftsmanship of the Asante using ancient techniques of weaving and carving. We will visit the Kente Village of Bonwire to witness and experience how famous Kente cloth is woven and get the opportunity to try your hands of this fascinating art of weaving. Our next destination will be the Ntonso Adinkra Village where the Adinkra symbols takes it root from. You will pick your own Adinkra symbols, and you will be guided to make your own designs and experience pride of wearing your designed cloth.
Awhia Wood Carving Village won’t be far from reach where we will witness art of making statues, masks, stools, dolls, furniture etc., using ancient techniques. We will have an experience in a cocoa farm in Adanwomase Village and see the raw bean which is used to make our favorite chocolate. Lunch at Ike’s Café restaurant. We will visit a UNESCO heritage lake called Lake Bosumtwi and learn about the existence of the lake and take a boat ride on this nature wonder. Overnight in Kumasi Meals included: Breakfast
We will travel to the colonial city of Cape Coast from Kumasi after your breakfast in a 4hr drive but we will make a stop at the Assin Manso Slave River {Donko Nsuo}, where enslaved Africans were made to take what was supposed be their last bath in the land of their ancestors before been journeyed on foot about 3hrs to the slave dungeons south of Assin Manso. We will lay a wreath at the ancestral graveyard where remains of three African descendants have been laid to rest and pay our last respect. We will continue to Cape Coast and settle into our hotel; we will have a storyteller tells us the history and story about the Cape Coast people before their encounter with the Portuguese over dinner. _Overnight in Cape Coast_ Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner
Today we explore the colonial capital of the then Gold Coast by visiting the Elmina Slave Castle the first slave post in Ghana which was built by the Portuguese in the 1482, it was first built as a trading post but it was later expanded into a slave dungeon. Our next destination will be Cape Coast Slave Castle constructed by the Swedish Africa company for a trade in timber and gold but was later converted into a slave dungeon when the Atlantic slave trade began. The castle traded hands with several European nations and it was largely used by the British until Ghana gained its independence in 1957. Lunch at Lemon Lounge
We will challenge our adventurous spirit to it must when we take a trip to Kakun National Park and Canopy Walk where we will endeavor to trek on a 7-foot bridge on top of a tree with the height of 350 meters above sea level.
